In a significant escalation of tensions, Iran has launched a major drone attack on Israel, according to a statement by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). The IDF reported that dozens of drones are en route to Israeli territory, and their arrival is expected to take several hours
The announcement came shortly after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the nation, emphasising Israel’s readiness for a direct attack from Iran. “Our defense systems are deployed, and we are prepared for any scenario, both in defense and offence,” Netanyahu stated. “We will defend ourselves from any threat, and we will do so calmly and with determination.”
The heightened alert in Israel follows a recent airstrike in Syria that resulted in the deaths of two Iranian generals. Iran has accused Israel of orchestrating the attack and has vowed retaliation. However, Israel has remained tight-lipped about its involvement in the incident.
In a separate incident, Iranian paramilitary Revolutionary Guard commandos executed a daring operation. They rappelled from a helicopter onto an Israeli-affiliated container ship near the Strait of Hormuz, seizing the vessel. This latest attack further escalates tensions between the two countries.
Earlier this month, a suspected Israeli strike targeted an Iranian consular building in Syria, resulting in the deaths of 12 people, including a senior Guard general.
