A serious fire has erupted on Bourne Road in Maidstone, prompting a major emergency response and the closure of the road in both directions.
The blaze, which broke out shortly after 6pm, has completely destroyed several garages and outbuildings, sending dense black smoke billowing into the air.
The smoke has been clearly visible from Detling Hill, miles from the scene.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service dispatched four fire engines and approximately 25 firefighters to tackle the “well-developed” blaze. Kent Police are also on scene assisting with traffic management and public safety.
Road Closures and Safety Advice
Sittingbourne Road remains closed while crews continue to damp down the area and investigate the cause of the fire. Residents are urged to avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed due to smoke.
Emergency services have confirmed that the garages and outhouses involved were 100% destroyed by fire.
At this stage, there are no confirmed reports of serious injuries, but it is believed that some individuals may have been assessed at the scene.
