M27 Motorway closed after serious collision
The westbound carriageway of the M27 near Portsmouth has been closed this evening (Sunday 26th June) after a serious collision. All three lanes of the carriageway are closed from Junction 11 from Fareham to Junction 12 for Cosham and M275 and are likely to stay closed until at least 7am. The traffic on all three lanes has been stopped and a large goods vehicle, a coach and two other vehicles are surrounding a vehicle that has left the carriageway and went up the embankment then flipped over onto its roof and now lays in the middle lane of the carriageway. Emergency Service are at the scene and have been battling to free two persons trapped in the vehicle that is on its roof. One of the persons is believed to be a female. A sea of blue lights from emergency vehicles can been seen from the incident. Fire appliances from Cosham, Southsea and a Rescue support vehicle are at the scene. Three ambulances and the Hazardous Area response team from South Central Ambulance Service (HART) are supporting the fire service. A large crowd of drivers have now got out of their vehicles whilst Police arrange for them to be removed from the closed carriageway. Police are attempting to turn around approx 250 vehicles that are trapped behind the collision. These are slowly being moved under police escort back to the on slip of junction 11. Collision scene investigators are now examining the scene under torch-light. https://youtu.be/WsbwpTR2AbM Police are advising that the Westbound carriageway is unlikely to reopen until at least 5.30am but following investigations a crane and a flatbed lorry from Boarhunt garage to recovery the flipped vehicle. Local diversion routes have been out in place these are:Diversion: Follow the hollow circle symbol.Exit the M27 at J11 and take the 3rd exit from the roundabout onto the A27. Stay in the left hand lane and take the 1st exit. At the roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A27 (Porchester Road) eastbound. Continue on the A27 to the Portsbridge interchange. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit to re-join the M27 at J12. Drivers in the area are advised to allow extra time for their journey and to consider alternative routes if possible Officers from the Hampshire Road Policing are appealing for any drivers who may have dash cam footage of the vehicle prior to the collision to contact them on 101.
