A serious vehicle fire on the M25 motorway between junctions 27 and 28 near Brentwood has resulted in road closures and severe traffic delays. Emergency services are currently at the scene, working to manage the situation.
As a result of the incident, traffic is at a standstill on both carriageways of the motorway. National Highways has reported a 2-mile congestion in both directions.
In response to the emergency, an Air Ambulance is reportedly en route to the scene. Traffic is being held on the anti-clockwise carriageway as emergency responders address the situation.
A Spokesman for National Highways said:
The M25 in Essex is closed clockwise between J27 (for the M11) and J28 (for the A12, near Brentwood) due to a serious vehicle fire. Traffic is also stopped on the anti-clockwise carriageway.
Emergency services including Essex Police and Air Ambulance are in attendance. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene assisting with traffic management.
Diversion Route:
Road users are advised to follow the Hollow Triangle diversion symbol on road signs
- From M25 Junction 27 take direct exit slip onto M11 towards London.
- At M11 Junction 4 bear left onto A406(S) North Circular Road.
- At A406/A12 ‘Redbridge Interchange’ bear left onto A12 and then take 2nd exit at roundabout onto A12 towards Chelmsford.
- Follow A12 towards Chelmsford, at A12/A127 ‘Gallows Corner’ take the 2nd exit continuing on the A12 for approximately 2 miles to the ‘Brook Street‘ roundabout.
- Take the 3rd exit to rejoin the M25 Junction 28 anticlockwise directional.
There are currently 45 minute delays in both directions with 3 miles congestion clockwise and 4 miles anti-clockwise.
