A significant section of the M20 motorway is currently blocked due to a “massive” vehicle fire, causing disruption for motorists.
All lanes Londonbound between Junction 9 at Ashford and Junction 8 at Maidstone services are reported to be impassable, with traffic at a standstill.
A photograph captured from the scene shows stationary vehicles lining the carriageway, with plumes of smoke billowing in the distance, indicative of the severity of the blaze.
Motorists have taken to social media to warn others about the situation, advising against travelling on the affected stretch of the M20. One user cautioned, “Do not come down onto the M20 junction 9 London bound to 8! All lanes blocked and massive fire ahead.
Furthermore, traffic is reported to be slow coastbound as drivers slow down to observe the fire, exacerbating congestion in the area.
Another social media post described the scene: “Fire on M20 2 miles west of Jn 9 Londonbound, but other carriageway stopped for safety due to smoke. Fire, police, and traffic officers in attendance.
Efforts to manage the situation and alleviate congestion are ongoing, with police and emergency services responding to the incident.
Authorities have been contacted for further information regarding the incident, and updates will be provided as the situation unfolds.
