M1 Southbound Closed Following Fuel Tanker Crash near Northampton

The M1 southbound between junctions 15 and 14 has been closed by Police and Highways England following a collision involving a fully laden fuel tanker. The road is likely to remain closed for a number of hours. Police and Fire crews from Bucks Fire and rescue at at the scene. It is understood that a large amount of fuel has escaped from damaged tanker and onto the carriageway. The collision happened on the southbound carriageway near junction 15, leaving thousands of motorists stranded in rush-hour queues. A spokesman for Bucks Fire and Rescue said ” Crews are currently at scene of collision involving petrol tanker and car, on the M1 southbound between Junction 15 and Newport Pagnell Services. Those involved have minor injuries We sent appliances from one from Broughton, one from Great Holm and an officer attended. No-one was trapped. A man and a woman suffered what were believed to be minor injuries and were left in the care of South Central Ambulance Service. Another man was uninjured. More to Follow
