A section of the A395 in Cornwall was closed in both directions today after a lorry collided with a tree, resulting in a fuel spill and significant delays near Hallworthy. The incident, which occurred around 11:35 am near the Egloskerry turn-off and The Wilsey Down, led to extensive clean-up efforts throughout the day as debris and fuel covered the road.
According to Devon and Cornwall Police, the driver initially appeared to be trapped but managed to escape the vehicle unaided and was reported to be unharmed. Emergency responders quickly established a road closure to allow for the safe removal of the tree and cleanup of the fuel spillage, warning that the road would be closed “for some time.”
Traffic monitor Inrix noted long delays as vehicles were diverted around the scene. By 7:15 pm, officials confirmed that the A395 had been fully reopened after debris was cleared and the fuel spill cleaned up, allowing traffic to return to normal.
Authorities thanked drivers for their patience and urged caution on roads as cleanup operations concluded.
