A 39-year-old man, identified as Kyle Simm of Elleray Drive in Liverpool, has been charged with possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition after police discovered a 2.2 revolver and four rounds of ammunition inside the back of a taxi on Eaton Road.
The incident unfolded at approximately 20.15 BST on Friday, September 29, when officers stopped a private hire taxi, suspecting the passenger in the back was behaving suspiciously. Upon approaching the passenger, they observed a bag in the taxi. Before the police could intervene, the man fled the scene.
Upon inspecting the abandoned bag, authorities found a 2.2 revolver, four rounds of ammunition, and over £100 in cash. Kyle Simm was apprehended early the next morning, charged with firearm and ammunition possession. He appeared at Wirral Remand Court, where he was remanded into custody.
Inspector Michael McEvoy emphasised Merseyside Police’s commitment to proactively investigating serious organised crime, particularly the use of firearms in cities.
