A Lewisham police officer, PC Randeep Phull, was arrested following a drunken street brawl in Woolwich, a misconduct hearing revealed.
The incident occurred on March 20, 2021, near an allotment in the SE18 area, where PC Phull engaged in a physical altercation with his brother, lashing out with his hands and feet.
A member of the public reported a group of men involved in an aggressive argument, prompting police intervention. Upon arrival, officers drew tasers on PC Phull and his brother.
PC Phull was subsequently taken to Lewisham Police Station, although no further action was taken after an investigation regarding allegations of affray.
The misconduct hearing, held on May 15, 2024, investigated the incident, despite PC Phull having already left the Met Police service.
The panel found that PC Phull had spent approximately four or five hours drinking before the altercation. Although the aggression stemmed from his brother, PC Phull initially attempted to diffuse the situation.
However, he later resorted to violence, reacting to his brother’s actions with physical retaliation. Fortunately, due to the inebriated state of both parties, no significant blows were exchanged.
Describing PC Phull as remorseful, the panel determined that his actions did not warrant dismissal from the police force.
Given PC Phull’s departure from the police service, no formal outcome was required following the misconduct hearing.
