Three police officers have been injured after an unknown liquid was thrown at them during an incident in Leicester city centre.
The attack happened in King Street at around 4.50am on Sunday (24 August) while officers were responding to reports of an affray.
Officers Hospitalised
The liquid caused significant irritation to the skin and eyes of the officers. They were taken to hospital for treatment, monitored for several hours, and later discharged.
Leicestershire Police said medical professionals do not believe the substance will cause lasting damage.
Arrest Made
A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of administering a noxious substance. He remains in custody for questioning.
Detectives believe the liquid may also have hit members of the public in the area.
Police Appeal
Detective Inspector Jenny Tattersall said:
“While we don’t know what the substance is at this stage and tests will be carried out, medical professionals have indicated that there will be no lasting damage.
We know that there were other people in the area at the time the liquid was thrown and I’d like anyone who may have been contaminated with it to contact us.
It may be on items of clothing, and that will be further evidence. Equally, if you were in the area and saw what happened, or in the moments before or after, I’m interested in hearing from you.”
Police confirmed CCTV enquiries showed there were “a lot of people in the area at the time”.
Anyone with information or footage is urged to contact Leicestershire Police via their website or by calling 101, quoting incident number 181 of 24 August.
