A large field fire near the A2 in Gravesend has been burning since Saturday night, causing significant visibility problems for drivers and prompting warnings for local residents. The fire, which started on the evening of Saturday, September 14, has spread through a large area of hay bales near Foxhounds Lane.
As of 8pm on Sunday, September 15, local authorities were still advising residents to keep their windows and doors closed due to the thick smoke continuing to blanket the area. The fire has also led to visibility issues on the A2, with smoke drifting across the busy road, making driving conditions hazardous.
Five fire engines and a bulk water carrier were dispatched to the scene, with crews working tirelessly to contain the blaze. Firefighters have reported making good progress, but the fire is still active and efforts to extinguish it are ongoing.
Residents in the area are being urged to remain cautious and to share safety information with those who may not have internet access, particularly the elderly or vulnerable living nearby.
Fire crews continue to monitor the situation, and further updates are expected as the operation progresses.
