King’s Cross St Pancras Underground Station was evacuated during Monday evening’s rush hour following a reported “security alert,” causing disruption for commuters in one of London’s busiest transport hubs.
Transport for London (TfL) confirmed the incident via X (formerly Twitter), stating the evacuation took place shortly after 7pm. While the nature of the alert has not yet been disclosed, passengers were swiftly cleared from the underground station as a precautionary measure.
London North Eastern Railway (LNER) also shared an update on social media, noting that the evacuation affected only the underground station and that the mainline railway station remained open and operational.
British Transport Police (BTP) have been contacted for further information, but no official statement has been released at the time of writing.
The evacuation caused confusion among evening commuters, many of whom were forced to seek alternative routes home. Eyewitnesses described a sudden announcement instructing everyone to leave the station, followed by a visible police presence.
TfL has advised passengers to check for travel updates and allow extra time for their journeys while services return to normal.
More details are expected to emerge as authorities investigate the nature of the security alert.
