Young people in Dover are getting a digital boost thanks to a donation of new computer equipment funded by the Kent Police Property Fund, in a move aimed at supporting youth employment and training.
The initiative, part of Kent Police’s ongoing community outreach, saw the donation of five Chromebooks and a laptop to Future Skills CIC, a local organisation that provides guidance, skills training, and employability support to young people across the district.
The equipment was formally presented on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, by Chief Inspector Liz Cokayne-Delves, the District Commander for Dover, to Carol Clayton and Andy Dennis of Future Skills.
Chief Inspector Cokayne-Delves said:
“It is a pleasure to donate towards a great cause that supports and encourages the younger members of our community. By helping them develop new skills, we reduce the risk of individuals being drawn toward criminal behaviour and instead offer a more positive, brighter future.”
Supporting Skills and Reducing Risk
The Kent Police Property Fund is financed through the sale of unclaimed lost property and items seized during police operations. Proceeds are distributed to community groups across Kent that contribute to crime prevention, youth engagement, and public wellbeing.
The new IT equipment will ensure that every participant in the Future Skills programme has access to essential digital tools as they prepare for employment, further education, or vocational training.
Andy Dennis of Future Skills CIC said:
“This generous donation is already making a difference. Many of the young people we support would not have access to a computer at home. These devices open up doors to learning, job applications, and personal development.”
Empowering Local Communities
This is the latest in a series of grants from the Kent Police Property Fund that aim to empower communities, deter youth crime, and build positive futures.
Local groups that align with Kent Police’s goals for community engagement and crime prevention are encouraged to apply for funding throughout the year.
