Sussex Police are appealing for witnesses after a violent disturbance near St Mary’s Church Causeway in Horsham town centre, which left multiple officers assaulted, including one who required hospital treatment.
The incident happened around 7:10pm on Saturday, 21 June, shortly after a couple were seen leaving The Big Gig music event at the nearby Horsham Cricket Field.
Officers Assaulted During Response
Police were called to reports of a public disturbance, but upon arrival, several officers were themselves physically attacked. One officer sustained injuries serious enough to require overnight hospital treatment, though they were discharged the next day.
Man Charged with Multiple Offences
Oliver Latimer, 29, of St Mary’s Gardens, Horsham, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with seven offences, including:
- Attempted wounding with intent
- Assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH)
- Two counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker
- Three counts of assault by beating
- One count of affray
Latimer appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on 23 June, where he was bailed to next appear at Lewes Crown Court on 21 July.
Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward
Sussex Police are now appealing for any witnesses or individuals with mobile phone or dashcam footage of the incident who have not yet spoken to officers.
