A shocking incident unfolded at a high school in the southern Spanish town of Jérez de la Frontera, as a 14-year-old student was arrested after injuring three teachers and two fellow pupils with a knife. The sudden outbreak of violence sent shockwaves through the school community and local authorities.
The harrowing episode occurred at 8:25 a.m. on Thursday when the National Police received a distress call reporting an armed individual attacking people within the school premises. According to police sources, the young pupil entered a classroom seemingly agitated and took out “knives” from his backpack, recounted one of his classmates to EFE news agency.
The assailant wielded two kitchen knives during the attack, inflicting injuries of varying severity on both classmates and teachers. Among the injured, one teacher sustained a serious eye injury, while another student, who suffered minor injuries, was released from the hospital later in the day.
According to reports by El País, the attacker launched his assault by stabbing one of his classmates from behind while shouting threatening remarks. Panic ensued as the rest of the class fled the room. The biology teacher, who was present at the time, bravely approached the teenager and implored him to stop, but she, too, fell victim to the attack, sustaining an injury to her eye.
The young assailant subsequently exited the classroom and proceeded to another one. Witnesses recall that one of the teachers and several students managed to intervene and subdue the attacker, preventing further harm.
Additional insight into the incident was provided by fellow students, who suggested that the young perpetrator might be grappling with mental health issues, potentially related to Asperger’s syndrome. Furthermore, classmates revealed that he may have been subjected to bullying, recounting instances of ridicule and mistreatment, including having water thrown on him in the schoolyard.
