An HGV driver was prohibited from continuing his journey after being caught on the motorway with a severely smashed windscreen.
Road Policing Unit (RPU) officers spotted the dangerous vehicle and stopped it before it could pose a greater risk to road users. Shockingly, the driver reportedly expected to be allowed to continue, unload, and then return across the Channel for repairs.
Instead, officers prohibited the HGV from any further movement until the windscreen is fully replaced. The vehicle was parked up immediately, and the driver was taken off the road.
Authorities reminded commercial drivers and operators that vehicles in unsafe conditions will not be allowed to continue under any circumstances, particularly when public safety is at risk.
An RPU spokesperson said:
A damaged windscreen compromises both the driver’s visibility and the safety of everyone on the road. This HGV will remain off the network until properly repaired.
