In a series of violent incidents, gunmen targeted a synagogue, an Orthodox church, and a police post in the Russian republic of Dagestan. According to local news agencies, at least two police officers lost their lives during the attacks, and six others were wounded.
The attacks occurred in the cities of Derbent and Makhachkala. Derbent, known for its ancient Jewish community, houses both the targeted synagogue and the Orthodox church. Meanwhile, the police post attack unfolded in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, approximately 125 kilometres (75 miles) away.
Authorities are investigating the motives behind these coordinated attacks, which have left the community in shock.
