Attacker Held Gun to Victim’s Head and Pulled the Trigger – But the Weapon Jammed
A furious gunman who held a firearm to a man’s head and pulled the trigger has been jailed for 27 years after being found guilty of attempted murder.
Patson Mafuane, 23, of Servia Drive, Woodhouse, Leeds, was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court after jurors heard how he attempted to execute his victim in cold blood – only for the gun to jam at the crucial moment, sparing the man’s life by sheer luck.
Gun Attack in Leeds
The terrifying incident unfolded on July 25 last year, when Mafuane launched his attack on Burley Road, Leeds. During the altercation, he pulled out a deadly firearm and aimed it directly at the victim’s head before pulling the trigger.
However, in a twist of fate, the weapon jammed, allowing the target to escape with his life.
Verdict and Sentencing
Mafuane was convicted of:
- Attempted murder
- Possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life
The court handed him a 27-year prison sentence, ensuring he will remain behind bars for decades.
Police Statement
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said:
“This was an extremely serious and reckless act that could have resulted in a tragic loss of life. The victim was incredibly fortunate to survive this attack, and we welcome the lengthy sentence handed down by the court.”
