Residents of Princes Road, Gravesend have been granted continued protection from disorderly neighbours after a closure order on a problem property was extended for an additional three months.
Address Linked to Crime and Antisocial Behaviour
The property had previously been associated with persistent antisocial behaviour and criminal activity, causing significant distress within the community. Local officers from Kent Police received numerous complaints regarding violence and drug dealing at the address.
In January 2025, Kent Police successfully applied for a closure order at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court, which resulted in the premises being secured and vacated. Since then, any unauthorised attempt to enter the building has carried the risk of fines and imprisonment.
Extension Granted
On Friday 4 April, constables returned to court to request a three-month extension to the order to allow Gravesham Borough Council to take formal possession of the property. The application was approved, and the same legal consequences remain for anyone attempting to access the premises unlawfully.
Police Statement
Police Sergeant Steve Cole, speaking about the court’s decision, said:
“The offensive conduct connected to this address included violence and drug dealing. The residents in the area were considerably distressed by the incidents, and we have worked closely with the council to ensure the issue was resolved.”
He added:
“We are looking at other addresses in Gravesham and will not hesitate to take similar action when persistent crime and antisocial behaviour from one household blights the quality of life for everyone else.”
Community Relief
The extension of the closure order has been welcomed by local residents who have long campaigned for action against the problematic address. One neighbour expressed relief, saying:
“It’s been a nightmare living near that house. Hopefully, the extension will give the council enough time to sort things out for good.”
Next Steps
With the closure order extended, the Gravesham Borough Council is expected to take formal possession of the property, allowing them to rehabilitate or repurpose the building to prevent future disturbances.
Local authorities are also monitoring other problem addresses within the area, as part of a broader initiative to reduce crime and improve community safety.
Zero Tolerance Approach
Kent Police have reiterated their zero tolerance stance on drug-related crime and antisocial behaviour. They are actively encouraging residents to report any issues via 101 or through the Kent Police website to help maintain a safe and peaceful community.
As the situation develops, local officers will continue to work alongside the council to identify and address similar issues in other parts of Gravesham. Further updates will follow as the council proceeds with the property possession process.
