Two People and a Dog Killed by Car on Icy Road in Kent
In a devastating turn of events, a woman who has asked not to be named has recounted the horrifying scene she witnessed from her garden when two people and their dog were fatally struck by a black BMW in Kent. The driver hit the victims on the treacherously icy road on Thurnham Lane in Bearsted Kent
The witness, a grandmother who was in her garden with her grandchildren at the time, described the aftermath of the collision. A man at the scene immediately dialled 999 and attempted to assist the victims, but tragically, they were pronounced dead at the scene.
She recounted the scene as “absolute carnage one of the worst things I have ever seen and noted the presence of approximately 50 emergency service personnel, including firefighters, ambulance crews, police, and an air ambulance that landed in an adjacent field.
The woman expressed a degree of sympathy for the driver, citing the hazardous road conditions. She mentioned that the roads had been perilously icy and not adequately treated by local authorities. She also revealed that she had previously contacted Kent County Council about a blockage that led to surface water freezing on the roads, potentially contributing to the dangerous conditions.
As the police worked into the evening, remnants of the car remained in the hedge, a stark reminder of the tragic events. The incident has raised concerns about road safety and the responsiveness of local authorities to weather-related hazards.
Kent County Council and Kent Police are yet to comment on the specifics of the road conditions and the measures taken following the initial complaint about the blockage and icing.
This tragedy has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the importance of road safety and the potentially fatal consequences of adverse weather conditions.
