Gosport Road Shut After Head-On Crash Between Two People Carriers
A busy Gosport route was shut this afternoon following a terrifying head-on smash between two people carriers. The collision happened on Newgate Lane, right by the Tanners Lane junction at the Fareham/Gosport border.
Chaos on Newgate Lane
Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports that one car was facing the wrong way and the other crashed into a hedgerow. Paramedics treated one driver at the scene before rushing them to hospital.

Authorities closed the road temporarily to recover the wrecked vehicles and deal with an oil spill. Hampshire Roads Policing officers showed quick thinking, using soil and a nearby wheelie bin to stop oil from flooding the street drains.

Traffic snarled up back to Market Quay Roundabout in Fareham, as drivers scrambled for alternative routes. Police suspect one driver had a medical episode before smashing into oncoming traffic. Mobile phone use has been ruled out, as cops step up a crackdown operation in the area.
