Passengers have been locked out of a key station since 11.44am today (September 29) as emergency services Dealdeal with two serious train accidents. Thameslink has urged everyone to avoid travelling “due to multiple incidents across the network.”

Two Separate Train Strikes Spark Major Disruption

The chaos Beganbegan at 9.13am when a person was struck by a train between Luton and england/st-albans/”>england/st-albans/”>St Albans City, blocking all lines between these stations. Initially, the disruption was expected to last until 1pm but has now been extended until at least 3pm — with further delays possible.

Adding to the mayhem, a second person was hit between heath-wales/”>Heathheath/”>Haywards Heath and Gatwick Airport at 10.55am. Thameslink responded by cancelling all services until further notice and warning passengers not to travel.

“If your train has come to a stand in between stations, please remain on board and do not attempt to leave the train unless directed to by a member of staff. We know where you are and we are working to get you on the move again shortly.” – Thameslink

Network-Wide Travel Meltdown Hits London Commuters

Although both crashes occurred outside London, the fallout is wreaking havoc on anyone trying to get in or out of the capital right now. East Midlands Railway services are hit hard with no trains running in either direction between Luton and London St Pancras International. The Corby to London St Pancras Connect route has also been suspended.

Southern, Great Western Railway, and Gatwick Express services are also experiencing delays and cancellations. National Rail warns train journeys through the affected areas could be delayed by up to 60 minutes or cancelled altogether as emergency crews work at the scenes.
