Detectives investigating a suspected arson attack at a restaurant in east London have arrested two people.
A 15-year-old boy and a 54-year-old man were detained on Sunday, 24 August on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. Both remain in police custody.
Five Victims Injured
Emergency services were called to Woodford Avenue, Gants Hill at around 9pm on Friday, 22 August after reports of a fire inside a restaurant.
Five people – three women and two men – were confirmed injured. Two victims, a man and a woman, remain in a life-threatening condition in hospital.
Police believe there may have been two additional victims who left the scene before officers arrived. Efforts are ongoing to identify them.
Police Appeal
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers, from the Met’s Central Specialist Crime North unit, said:
“While we have made two arrests, our investigation continues at pace so we can piece together what happened on Friday evening.
I know the community are concerned and shocked by this incident. I would urge anyone with any information or concerns to come forward and speak to police.”
