Mason Maxwell, formerly known as Kane Hutchison from Gateshead, has been sentenced to three years in prison following an investigation by the Stockport Complex Safeguarding Team.
Maxwell of no fixed abode, was found guilty of multiple child sexual offences.
Originally from Gateshead area, Maxwell changed his name by deed poll and relocated to Greater Manchester, where he continued to prey on vulnerable children. The charges against him included taking indecent images and videos of children, making indecent images, and distributing indecent material.
On Monday, June 24, Maxwell appeared at Minshull Crown Court, where he received his three-year prison sentence. In addition to jail time, he has been placed on the sex offenders register for life and is subject to a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
The investigation into Maxwell began in 2021 after community intelligence raised concerns about his activities. Stockport’s Complex Safeguarding Team worked diligently to identify potential victims affected by Maxwell’s actions.
On January 6, 2022, officers executed a warrant at Maxwell’s address on Clowes Street in Salford, seizing crucial electronic devices. A thorough digital examination revealed disturbing images and videos of children. Maxwell had been sharing these illicit materials and boasting about his reprehensible behaviour.
Detective Constable Ben Swapp, part of Stockport’s Complex Safeguarding Hub, described Maxwell as a “calculated and depraved individual.” Despite overwhelming evidence, Maxwell denied all allegations during his interview, showing no remorse for the harm caused to young victims and their families.
Swapp urged anyone affected by this case or who believes they may be a victim of sexual abuse to come forward and report it. Specially trained officers and partners are available to provide support and assistance to those in need.
