A former boxer from Eltham has appeared in court charged with murder following a fatal assault outside a Lewisham pub.
Court Appearance and Emotional Scenes
Paul Tallant, 42, of Eltham, appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court today (Monday, March 3) charged with the murder of 63-year-old Charlie Prodromou.
Incident at The Watch House Pub
The fatal assault occurred after a disturbance at The Watch House pub in Lewisham High Street on Saturday, March 1.
Police were called at 8:39 PM following reports of an altercation. Officers and paramedics attended and found Mr. Prodromou with life-threatening injuries. Despite being rushed to hospital, he later died.
Investigators believe that Mr. Prodromou was asked to leave the pub by the landlady due to his intoxication. As he was leaving, he attempted to light a cigarette and grabbed a glass from a group of women.
At this point, a bystander—reported to be a former boxer—intervened. The situation escalated outside the pub, leading to the fatal confrontation.
No Bail Application
There was no application for bail, and Tallant was remanded into custody ahead of his next court appearance.
Police Investigation Continuess
A 42-year-old man was arrested nearby shortly after the attack and later charged with murder.
Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command continue to appeal for witnesses who were inside or outside The Watch House pub at the time of the incident.
