Forensic collision investigators from the Metropolitan Police based at Merton have launched an investigation following a life-changing collision in Chessington on Sunday evening, 9 March 2025.
The incident occurred around 8pm on Bridge Road near the junction with Osbourne Way.
A pedestrian, understood to be a pensioner, was struck in a 20mph zone and thrown some distance upon impact.
The person’s age has not yet been officially confirmed.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, and specialist officers closed the road to begin a detailed examination. A yellow car and a red delivery moped are being closely inspected as part of the investigation. A large amount of first aid equipment, personal clothing, and police evidence markers remain visible at the scene.
Detectives have been conducting house-to-house enquiries and trawling for CCTV footage to piece together the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officers are working to establish how the collision happened and whether any further parties were involved.
Road closures remain in place, with the eastbound carriageway blocked at the junction of North Parade. Police are advising drivers to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
