Firefighters on High Alert as Arson Strikes Dorset Heathlands Again
Dorset’s heathlands are under threat once more as a spate of suspicious fires hit the Purbeck area. Emergency crews scrambled on Saturday 28 March to tackle at least three separate blazes near the B3075 Morden Road and Holton Heath Trading Park, close to Wareham.
Patrols Launched for Bank Holiday Safety
In response, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service has announced increased patrols across the Dorset heathlands this bank holiday weekend. Firefighters will be on the ground, ready to tackle any flare-ups and keep visitors safe.
“Fire crews will be patrolling the heathlands in Dorset this weekend to ensure that visitors can safely enjoy our open spaces. If you spot them, don’t hesitate to stop by for a chat and learn more about the important prevention work being done!”

Frustration Over Repeat Arson Attacks
Group Manager Wayne Jones expressed his anger over the recurring fires. “Last summer was one of the most challenging for wildfires that we’ve ever faced, so it’s incredibly frustrating to have had these suspicious fires again,” he said.
“These incidents destroy wildlife, harm our communities, and cost the Fire Service precious resources. We urge anyone with information to come forward. Spot a fire? Call 999 immediately. Early reports are crucial to stopping small blazes becoming uncontrollable wildfires.”
