Around 40 firefighters and six fire engines responded to a significant fire at a derelict building in Harrow this week. The blaze broke out late in the evening, prompting multiple calls to emergency services.
The fire severely damaged the ground and first floors of the building, and part of a single-storey side annexe was also affected. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries as a result of the incident.
Fire crews from Stanmore, Harrow, Mill Hill, and nearby stations were mobilised after Control Officers received the first of 12 calls at 10.53pm. Firefighters worked diligently to bring the flames under control, with the situation stabilised by 12.19am.
To battle the blaze from above, two of the Brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladders were deployed as water towers, providing crucial support to the crews on the ground.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined, and investigations are ongoing. The London Fire Brigade praised the efforts of the firefighters and Control Officers for their swift response and hard work to manage the incident.
Residents in the area expressed relief that no one was harmed, while local authorities have reiterated the importance of keeping derelict buildings secure to prevent such incidents.
