Firefighters called to barn Fire in Bramley near

Firefighters are tackling a major barn fire which can be seen from miles around. Surrey Fire and Rescue Service were called to a farm between Grafham and Bramley on the outskirts of Guildford shortly before 4pm on Thursday afternoon. The fire is involving a single storey barn approximately fifteen metres by twenty metres containing 60 ton hay. There are 300 large bales alight. Crew from Cranleigh, Guildford, Godalming, and specialist vehicles from Leatherhead, Woking and Haslemere dealing with the large barn fire. Officers from Surrey Roads Policing also attended and closed off the A281 The road is closed in both directions near the junction of Pepperbox Lane as the fire caused smoke to blow across the carriageway.

At the height of the incident thirteen crews have been sent to the incident. Fire bosses managing the incident have said that crews would be committed overnight to damping down and stopping the fire from spreading. Area Commander John Cooper from Surrey Fire and Rescue praised crews for their effects in stopping the fire from spreading to the structure of the barn and stopping the spread to a near by electricity sub station. The incident was made easier after the farmer assisted by using his tractor to remove smoking bails of hay. Crews from across Surrey attended along with two land rovers. Two off road specialist vehicle with water monitor fixed to the roof where also called upon along with a 13,000 litre water carrier. Upon arrival crews found a barn containing approximately 60 tonnes of hay was well alight. Mr Cooper went on to say a firefighter presents was likely to remain until first light.
