A large fire in Fitzrovia has sent plumes of smoke billowing across central London this morning, with emergency services working to bring the blaze under control.
The London Fire Brigade confirmed that six fire engines and around 40 firefighters have been tackling the fire near Tottenham Street since 8:35 am.
Smoke Visible Across London
Dramatic video footage captured from the scene shows thick black smoke rising above the city skyline, partially obscuring landmarks such as the BT Tower.
Witnesses described the fire as “huge,” with residents and businesses in the area affected by the smoke.
Authorities Urge Public to Avoid the Area
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade issued a warning to residents and commuters:
“Please avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed due to smoke travel.”
The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and it is unclear whether there have been any injuries. Firefighters remain at the scene as they work to contain the blaze.
Traffic and Transport Disruptions
Due to the scale of the fire, authorities have advised that road closures and transport delays are expected in the Fitzrovia area. Commuters and pedestrians are urged to check for updates before traveling.
