Firefighters were called to a shed fire in Carshalton this evening, with reports of loud explosions and a strong smell of gas lingering in the air.

The incident occurred at The Market, Wrythe Lane, Carshalton on Wednesday evening where emergency crews responded to concerns that gas canisters may be involved claimed a neighbour.

Multiple fire engines were dispatched to the scene, and neighbours reported hearing a series of loud bangs as the fire took hold.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade at the scene  confirmed that the cause of the blaze is still under investigation. It remains unclear if there have been any injuries as a result of the incident.

Authorities have urged residents to stay clear of the area while crews work to ensure the fire is fully under control and to assess any potential hazards posed by the suspected gas canisters.
