In the early hours of today, a significant fire erupted at a range of industrial units on New Road in Rainham. The blaze, which ignited at a vehicle repair workshop, quickly engulfed at least one unit and multiple vehicles, prompting a robust response from emergency services.
Ten fire engines and approximately 70 firefighters rushed to the scene to battle the flames and prevent further escalation of the situation. Despite the intensity of the fire, there have been no reported injuries thus far.
Efforts to bring the fire under control have been underway, but firefighters anticipate remaining on-site throughout the night to fully extinguish the blaze and conduct necessary dampening down operations. As a precautionary measure, a road closure has been implemented on New Road near the junction of Marsh Way, and members of the public are advised to steer clear of the area until further notice.
The London Fire Brigade’s 999 Control Officers fielded approximately 15 calls regarding the incident, underscoring the magnitude of the emergency. The initial call was received at 12.38am, and firefighters managed to gain control of the fire by 01:55am
Crews from various stations, including Ilford, Wennington, Barking, and Hornchurch, collaborated in the firefighting efforts, demonstrating a coordinated response to the unfolding situation.
