The highly anticipated third series of the hit comedy Mandy, created by Diane Morgan, is currently in production. Once again, Morgan takes on the roles of writer, director, and lead actress in the series, which is produced by BBC Studios Comedy Productions. Fans can expect to see familiar faces as well as new additions to the cast, as Mandy embarks on a fresh set of misadventures.
Mandy, the beloved hero of the zero-hours economy, returns to our screens, grappling with her own personal cost-of-living crisis while navigating a series of short-lived, ill-conceived, and poorly compensated jobs. Joining Mandy on her journey is her friend, mentor, and nail clinician Lola, portrayed by Michelle Greenidge (Code 404), as they strive for the ultimate aspirational lifestyle, complete with prize-winning Doberman pinchers and magic eye pictures adorning every wall.
Series three introduces a host of talented actors, including Paul Ready (Motherland), Beverley Callard (Coronation Street), Nathan Foad (Our Flag Means Death), and Robbie Gee (Black Ops). Returning cast members include Tom Basden (Here We Go), Mark Silcox (Man Like Mobeen), Roger Sloman (Nuts in May), Alistair Green (The Great), Michael Spicer (The Room Next Door), Jackie Clune (Motherland), and Yuriko Kotani (Pls Like).
Diane Morgan, the creative force behind Mandy, humorously remarked on the nature of TV press releases, stating, “All the quotes used in TV Press releases like this are written by Chat GPT now. This one certainly is.” She continued to express her focus on the production process, rather than crafting a “pointless quote just to show off.” However, Morgan playfully questioned whether anyone would actually read her statement.
Josh Cole, Head of Comedy at BBC Studios, expressed his enthusiasm for the return of Mandy, praising Diane Morgan’s incomparable talent. The series, consisting of six 15-minute episodes, is a BBC Studios Comedy and Witchcraft Industries co-production. It was commissioned for BBC Two and BBC iPlayer by Jon Petrie, Director of BBC Comedy Commissioning. Kenny Tanner serves as the producer, while Ben Caudell takes on the role of executive producer. Seb Barwell is the Commissioning Editor for the BBC, and BBC Studios will handle international distribution for all three seasons of Mandy.
As production continues, fans eagerly await the return of Mandy and her hilarious escapades. With Diane Morgan at the helm, viewers can expect an unforgettable and laughter-filled experience when the new series premieres.
