Tragedy struck on the M25 near Lakeside as a motorcyclist lost their life in a collision with a car that was being pursued by police.
Essex Police responded to the incident at junction 30 around 11:40 pm last night (Sunday, 14 April). The collision involved a car and a motorcycle, and despite the swift response of emergency services, the motorcyclist succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
Prior to the crash, the car had been involved in a pursuit with Kent Police. In accordance with protocol, Kent Police has referred the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the police chase.
As a result of the collision, part of the roundabout was closed for several hours while accident investigation work was conducted. However, the road was fully reopened by approximately 10:30 am this morning (Monday, 15 April).
Essex Police are urging anyone with dashcam footage of the incident or any relevant information to come forward. Those with information are asked to contact Essex Police, quoting incident number 1331 of Saturday 14 April. Alternatively, individuals can reach out to the police on 101. In cases of emergency, the number to dial is 999.
