A life changingĀ road traffic collision (RTC) occurred near the Rotherhithe Tunnel on Commercial Road E1 at 10:15 pm on 3rd April 2025. The incident has led to the road being blocked in both directions, causing significant disruption to traffic.
Police Investigation Underway
Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are currently on the scene and have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident. The exact cause of the collision is yet to be determined, and police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said:
āPolice were called to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Commercial Road, Limehouse at 21:47hrs on Thursday, 3 April.
The pedestrian, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital where he remains in a life-threatening condition.
The driver, a 19-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in custody.
Commercial Road was closed in both directions for recovery and investigation. It was reopened at around 08:00hrs on Friday, 4 April.

Impact on Traffic and Public Transport
The collision has resulted in the closure of Commercial Road in both directions, significantly affecting local traffic and public transport routes. The following bus routes are affected:
- 15, 115, 135, D3, N15, N550, N551
Transport for London (TfL) has advised commuters to seek alternative routes and expect delays. Motorists are also urged to avoid the area where possible.
