Farringdon Station has been evacuated this evening after a fire alarm prompted a full-scale response, causing major disruption to commuters during peak travel hours.
Passengers were ordered to leave the station at around 6:20pm, with large crowds quickly gathering outside as services on both the Elizabeth line and Thameslink were suspended.
In a service update issued at 6:30pm, National Rail confirmed that trains travelling through the area may be cancelled, delayed by up to 20 minutes, or revised to skip Farringdon station entirely.
Initially, disruption was expected to last until 7:15pm, but National Rail later announced that no trains will stop at Farringdon for the remainder of the day.
