Explosives experts from the British Army have been called to the Eurotunnel terminal in Cheriton, Folkestone, after a suspicious vehicle was stopped earlier today, temporarily suspending shuttle services as emergency services respond to the incident.
The suspicious vehicle was intercepted at approximately 10:30am at the Channel Tunnel terminal in Folkestone. As a precautionary measure, explosives experts have been deployed to the scene, and a safety cordon has been established to ensure the well-being of the public.
The presence of emergency responders and the safety measures in place have, understandably, impacted traffic approaching the terminal. At present, shuttle services at Folkestone are temporarily suspended.
Authorities have confirmed that a man has been detained in connection with the incident, and ongoing investigations are underway. However, officials stress that, at this time, the incident is not believed to be related to the search for the escaped terror suspect, Daniel Khalife, who fled prison earlier this week.
The situation remains fluid, and local residents and travellers are advised to stay informed through official channels as more details emerge regarding this incident at the Eurotunnel terminal in Folkestone.
