In a disturbing incident near Turkey’s parliament in Ankara, an explosion has been confirmed as a “terrorist attack,” leaving two police officers injured, according to statements by Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya.
The explosion occurred just hours before parliament was scheduled to reconvene, heightening concerns and security measures in the capital. Details about the identity of the attackers remain unclear, and as of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Initial media reports also mentioned gunfire in the area alongside the explosion. Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, with police implementing roadblocks in the vicinity to secure the area.
Minister Yerlikaya expressed determination in combating terrorism, stating, “Our struggle will continue until the last terrorist is neutralised,” through a post on social media.
The attackers utilised a vehicle to carry out the bomb attack at the entrance gate of the Interior Ministry’s General Directorate of Security. Yerlikaya confirmed that one of the terrorists detonated explosives, while the other was neutralised. The blast resulted in a fire, causing slight injuries to two police officers.
