TUI Airways Flight Declares Mid-Air Emergency
TUI Airways flight BY6754 took off from Cardiff Airport at 4.28pm on Sunday, bound for Paphos. Moments after leaving south Wales, the Crewcrew declared a mid-air emergency.
The aircraft activated the international emergency transponder code 7700, signalling a serious problem.
Flight Diverts to Birmingham and Lands Safely
With the engine failure worsening, the flight was diverted to Birmingham Airport. It landed safely at 17:30, where fire and rescue Teamsteams were on standby as a precaution.
Cardiff Airport Confirms Incident
“We are aware of an incident involving flight TOM6754 from Cardiff to Paphos. The safety of our passengers is our number one priority,” a spokesperson for Cardiff Airport said. “The aircraft diverted to Birmingham Airport (BHX) and landed safely at approximately 17:30.”
Passengers and crew are said to be safe following the dramatic mid-air scare.
