In a shocking incident that has left the community reeling, an innocent elderly woman was brutally beaten and sexually assaulted while carrying out a litter pick in a Sheffield park. The face of the violent perpetrator, Saed Mohamed, has been revealed as justice has been served.
The assailant, aged 23, repeatedly punched and kicked his victim, leaving her with significant bruises and requiring stitches for a cut on her face. He then dragged her into nearby bushes, where he attempted to remove her clothing and sexually assaulted her. Throughout the attack, the terrified victim, who is in her 80s, pleaded for help and begged Mohamed to stop.
The traumatic incident occurred in December 2022 in the Firth Park area of Sheffield. Following the prolonged and violent assault, Mohamed eventually fled the scene, leaving the victim traumatised. Sadly, she later suffered a brain injury believed to be a result of the horrific attack.
Detectives were able to trace Mohamed after discovering his mobile phone in the grass near the crime scene. A subsequent search warrant at his address led to his prompt arrest and subsequent charging with Section 18 GBH (Grievous Bodily Harm) and sexual assault. Mohamed pleaded guilty to both offences.
During the sentencing at Sheffield Crown Court last Thursday, Mohamed was handed a 10-year prison term. The judge commended the bravery of the victim and praised her resilience throughout the investigation and court process. The victim’s family has been deeply affected by the brutality of the attack, offering unwavering support as she works towards recovery.
Acting Detective Sergeant Megan Pryce expressed her admiration for the victim’s bravery and resilience, describing the attack as violent, prolonged, and disturbing. She commended the investigating officer, DC Arron Connolly, and the entire team for their tireless efforts in securing the conviction that will see a dangerous individual like Mohamed incarcerated.
DC Connolly emphasised the woman’s bravery and praised her strength in the face of such terror. He acknowledged the unimaginable ordeal she endured and expressed relief that Mohamed is now behind bars, unable to target and terrorise other potential victims.
