A devastating fire at an upscale property in Richmond has claimed the life of an elderly man. Emergency services were alerted to the incident on Onslow Road, Richmond, at 20:14hrs.
Upon receiving the distress call, police and firefighters quickly mobilised. In the interest of safety, several neighbouring properties were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
The fire, which broke out in a three-story building, significantly damaged part of the ground floor. Firefighters from Richmond, Kingston, and Twickenham fire stations, totalling around 25 personnel, battled the blaze with four fire engines.
Despite their valiant efforts, a tragic discovery was made within the residence. An elderly man was found inside the home and, regrettably, was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed at this time.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) responded promptly to the incident, with the call received at 20:08hrs. Their diligent efforts brought the fire under control by 22:05hrs.
