EastEnders fans have been left disappointed after it was revealed that Matthew James Morrison, who plays Felix Baker, is set to leave the BBC soap later this year after three years on the show.
The actor, who joined EastEnders in 2022, is reportedly filming his final scenes soon, bringing an end to his time in Walford. Felix was introduced as part of the Baker-Taylor family, arriving on Albert Square alongside his father Avery (played by Omar Lye-Fook) and brother Finlay (Ashley Byam). He also made waves as the soap’s resident drag queen, Tara Misu, earning praise from viewers for representing diversity on screen.
BBC Confirms Departure
A BBC spokesperson confirmed the news, stating:
“We can confirm that Matthew will be leaving EastEnders later in the year. We wish him all the best for the future.”
Reports suggest the decision to write out the character was made by soap bosses, who felt it was the “right time to say goodbye” to Felix.
A source told The Sun:
“It’s never an easy decision for bosses when they have to make the decision for a character to leave. Matthew has been great, but bosses felt the time was right to say goodbye to Felix.”
Fans React: ‘Such a Shame’
However, fans have reacted strongly online, with many urging producers to reconsider the decision. Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has been flooded with messages expressing frustration at the departure.
“Nahhh he brought so many vibes!!” one fan posted.
“Nooo! Keep him in!” another exclaimed.
“That’s such a shame. He was good when he was used and had good storylines,” wrote one BBC viewer.
Another tweeted: “Still so much potential. Underused.”
Many viewers praised Morrison’s portrayal of Felix, highlighting his charisma, individuality, and the much-needed energy he brought to the soap.
A Colourful Character with More to Give
Felix Baker was known for his warm-hearted nature and witty persona, often offering comic relief and emotional depth in equal measure. His alter ego, Tara Misu, added a unique element to the show, and many viewers believe the character had more to give.
As the BBC prepares to say goodbye to Felix, fans are still holding out hope for a surprise plot twist or return in the future.
