Sussex Police have confirmed two arrests following a targeted Day of Action in Eastbourne town centre and Devonshire Ward, aimed at tackling drug offences and anti-social behaviour after concerns were raised by local residents.
Operation Targets Known Crime Hotspots
During the intensive operation, officers conducted multiple patrols and stop-and-searches in areas known for repeated reports of disorder and suspected drug activity.
As a result of these proactive measures, two individuals were arrested on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs.
Weapon Recovered and Charges Filed
One of the suspects, Alexander Ashton, 36, of no fixed address, was also found in possession of an offensive weapon. He has been charged and bailed to appear before Hastings Magistrates’ Court on 2 July.
Police Send Message to Criminals: ‘We Are Taking Action’
Chief Inspector Mark Evans, leading the operation, issued a clear message to those engaging in criminal activity:
“We hope to send a clear message: criminal activity in our town will not be tolerated.
We are grateful to all residents who continue reporting concerns—these patrols clearly demonstrate the importance of that information. We are listening and taking action.”
Community-Driven Policing
The operation is part of a broader initiative by Sussex Police to respond to local concerns through high-visibility patrols and partnership work. Officers have been actively engaging with residents, councillors, and business owners in affected areas to ensure a coordinated response.
