London commuters faced major disruption today after an e-bike caught fire on a platform at Rayners Lane Underground Station in Harrow.
Emergency Response
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) received reports of a fire involving an e-bike at the station at 11:30 AM on Thursday, 27 February. Fire crews quickly arrived to tackle the blaze, which sent smoke billowing through parts of the underground network.
Tube Delays and Disruptions
The incident caused severe delays on the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines, with services temporarily suspended at Rayners Lane while firefighters worked to extinguish the flames and ensure the platform was safe.
A Transport for London (TfL) spokesperson confirmed that services were impacted, urging passengers to check for updates before traveling.
E-Bike Fire Risks
E-bike and e-scooter battery fires have become an increasing concern in London, with the LFB repeatedly warning about the dangers of faulty or unregulated lithium-ion batteries.
An LFB spokesperson said:
“This incident highlights the serious risk posed by e-bikes, particularly when their batteries malfunction. We urge e-bike owners to use manufacturer-approved chargers and to never leave batteries charging unattended.”
Investigation Underway
The cause of the e-bike fire remains under investigation, but initial reports suggest it may have been linked to a battery fault or overheating issue.
