Former President Donald Trump’s lawyers have asked the New York judge who oversaw his hush money trial to set aside his conviction and delay the sentencing.
A letter was issued to Judge Juan M Merchan just hours before the Supreme Court ruling.
In the document, it asked that it weighs the high court decision and how it could impact the New York case
In previous court documents, Mr Trump said he was immune from prosecution for alleged conduct involving offial acts during his time as President.
His lawyers did not raise that as a defence, however on Monday the Supreme Court ruled that Mr Trump had broad immunity from prosecution which has meant a delay in the Washington criminal case on charges he tried to overturn the presidential election loss of 2020.
