A doctor has been hospitalised following a stabbing at a medical centre in Sidcup earlier today.

The incident occurred at a health centre on Granville Road just before 1pm. Police were called to the scene at 12:48 pm and discovered a medical practitioner, a man in his 50s, with a knife wound to his arm.

The injured doctor was swiftly taken to a south London hospital where his injury was assessed as not life-threatening.

A man in his 60s has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently being held at a south London police station.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police provided details of the incident: “Police were called at 12:48hrs on Thursday, 23 May to reports of a stabbing at a medical facility on Granville Road, Sidcup. Police attended. At the scene, a medical practitioner, a man in his 50s, had suffered a knife wound to his arm. He was taken to a south London hospital where his injury is not thought to be life-threatening. A man, aged in his 60s, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He was taken to a south London police station where he remains at this time. Officers from Greenwich, within the Met’s South East Command, are investigating.”

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Local residents and patients at the medical centre expressed their shock and concern following the attack. One witness described the scene as chaotic, with emergency services quickly arriving to assist the injured doctor and secure the area.

Authorities are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any information to come forward and assist with the investigation.
