Detectives investigating a reported sexual offence have issued a CCTV image of a man who may possess valuable information to aid their ongoing enquiries.
The incident occurred between 4am and 4.15am in the early hours of yesterday morning (Sunday, July 30). According to the report, a woman and her friend were approached by a man on Slater Street. Subsequently, the woman was allegedly taken to a vehicle where the incident is said to have taken place.
The victim is currently being supported by specialised officers as the investigation continues to unfold.
Extensive witness enquiries have been conducted, and the authorities have carefully examined CCTV footage from the area. In light of their investigation, they have released an image of a man they wish to speak to, believing he could provide crucial details.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Parry emphasised the seriousness with which the police are handling the case, stating, “Our officers take any report of a sexual offence very seriously, and we are determined to find the person responsible for such an attack. We understand the concern that such serious offences cause in our city centre, and I want to assure people we are assessing all possible evidence to establish what happened.”
The detective urged the individual shown in the CCTV footage to come forward, or anyone who may recognise him, as they might hold vital information for the investigation. Furthermore, witnesses present on Slater Street after 4am on Sunday, July 30, are encouraged to share any suspicious activity they observed.
“Any information you hold could be crucial to our enquiries. If you recognise the man pictured or have any CCTV footage near where this happened on Slater Street, then contact the police as soon as possible,” added Detective Chief Inspector Paul Parry.
