The victim, aged in her 20s, was walking along Kingsland Road, E8, shortly before 01:00hrs on Monday, 15 July when she noticed a man following close behind. She stepped aside to let him pass and carried on walking after there was sufficient space.

As the victim crossed the road at Downham Road, she noticed the suspect was in front of her with his hand outstretched, attempting to touch her face.

The victim ran across both lanes of Kingsland Road but the suspect sprinted after her and grabbed her arm before sexually assaulting her. He then forcibly pulled her into a driveway. The victim screamed for help but the suspect covered her mouth.

A delivery driver on a bicycle then thankfully heard her screams and peered down the driveway, giving the victim an opportunity to escape. The suspect then calmly walked away.

Detective Sergeant Rajkumar Anton Arulnayagam, from the Central East area’s CID, said: “This was an absolutely terrifying ordeal for the victim and we are committed to identifying this predatory man, who is a clear danger to women, as a matter of urgency.

“Women should feel safe to walk alone, and we are dedicated to protecting women and girls and eradicating violence against them caused largely at the hands of predatory men.

“At the time of the incident, the area was well-lit and busy – with many people making their way home following the Euros final. I’m keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the suspect or has dash-cam footage. I’d also appeal to the delivery driver who heard the victim’s screams and allowed her to escape to come forward and speak to us. You are being treated as a key witness, we know you assisted the victim and your information could be vital in bringing the perpetrator to justice.
