Detectives have made significant progress in the investigation following the discovery of human remains in a park in Croydon. Charges have been brought against a 44-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman in connection with this disturbing case.
Arrests and Charges:
- Gemma Saundercock of Holmbury Grove, Croydon, and Steve Samson of Burnell Road, Sutton, were apprehended on Saturday, April 6.
- Both suspects are scheduled to appear in custody at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, April 9.
- They face charges of murder and the prevention of the lawful and decent burial of a body.
Additional Charges:
- In a separate matter, Steve Samson has also been charged with three counts of making indecent images of a child. It’s important to note that these charges are currently unconnected with the ongoing murder investigation.
Support for the Victim’s Family:
The family of 38-year-old Sarah Mayhew, whose remains were discovered, has been informed of the charges. Officers are maintaining close contact with the family during this exceptionally difficult time.

The investigation was initiated following a call to police shortly after 09:00 on Tuesday, April 2. Reports indicated possible human remains found on Rowdown Fields in Croydon.
