In a harrowing incident that has shocked the Dartford community, Andrzej Kitrys has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for the attempted murder of a woman in shared accommodation near London Road, Stone. The violent attack, which occurred in the early hours of October 8, 2022, saw Kitrys stabbing the victim multiple times in a disturbing assault that has left lasting scars.

Kitrys, who had been sub-letting a room in the property for three months, was asked by the main tenants, including the victim, to vacate the premises. Defying this request, Kitrys launched a brutal attack on the woman while she was asleep, claiming he had killed another tenant and that she was next. Armed with a large kitchen knife, he inflicted serious injuries on the victim, targeting her neck, throat, and hands.

Displaying remarkable courage, the victim managed to disarm Kitrys and escaped to seek help. A neighbour’s prompt call to emergency services ensured the woman received immediate medical attention, while armed police officers swiftly responded to the scene. The officers forced entry into the house, securing the uninjured co-tenant and apprehending Kitrys without further harm.

Following his arrest, the Crown Prosecution Service charged Kitrys with attempted murder. Despite pleading not guilty, Kitrys was convicted on September 12, 2023, after a trial at Maidstone Crown Court. His sentencing on February 8, 2024, includes a 21-year prison term, during which he must serve at least two-thirds before being eligible for parole. Additionally, Kitrys faces a four-year extended license period upon release and a 30-year restraining order to protect the victim and others from further harm.

Detective Constable Rebecca Ward, of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, condemned the attack as a “violent and cowardly assault on a vulnerable woman in her own bed.” She commended the victim’s bravery in fending off her attacker and her quick thinking in seeking help, which likely saved the lives of others in the house. The swift action of the firearms officers was also highlighted as a critical factor in bringing Kitrys to justice.
